The Hovercraft 2.0 is Jones’ splitboard for deep powder days. Its volume-shifted design means you should ride it 2–5 cm shorter than your usual board length. A wide nose and short tail provide effortless float in deep snow and make it easy to turn through trees, navigate couloirs and carve open bowls. A medium flex and an edge profile that grips firm snow ensure it also performs when conditions turn icy in the mountains.

About the product

In short

The Hovercraft 2.0 is Jones’ splitboard for deep powder. A splitboard separates into two skis for the climb and clips together into a snowboard for the descent. The shape is volume-shifted, with a wide nose and short tail, so it floats high in deep snow and is easy to turn in trees, chutes and open bowls. A medium flex and a profile with grip on firm snow mean it also works when the snow is not soft.

How it feels

In deep snow the wide nose carries you on top, and the short tail lets the board turn easily under your back foot. The flex is medium and lively, so it responds quickly but stays forgiving. On harder snow the profile and edge hold give you something to push against, and the short tail makes hop turns in tight chutes easier. Jones team riders Forrest Shearer and Jimmy Goodman ride it.

For those who want to know more

The shape is Volume-Shifted Directional, a directional shape with the volume moved forward to the nose. It is wider and shorter than a traditional splitboard. The profile is Float CamRock, with a long nose rocker and camber all the way out in the tail, which gives float in powder and drive in the turn. The taper is 17 mm, Jones’ most accentuated, for powder-focused shapes where float is the priority. The Speed Hull in the tail reduces friction as snow passes through and is unique to the Hovercraft 2.0. High Traction Tech gives three bumps per edge (front binding, centre, back binding) for better grip. The base has a High 3D Contour Base with 4 to 8 mm of spoon bevel in the nose and 0 to 7 mm in the tail, which reduces edge drag and gives easier turns. The core is Control Split Core in paulownia and poplar at a 2:1 ratio.
